Today was Alan’s first chance to see more of Chalon-Sur-Saone than what’s on view from the back deck of the boat in the Port de Plaisance. Today, dimanche, there is a big market in the Place St Vincent. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, olives, wine, flowers, meat-raw, cooked and cured, fresh fish. Beautiful stalls and lots of people. We stopped for un cafe and I took a moment to close my eyes and use my other senses to capture the essence of the French market. The overwhelming sound was of the chatter of happy people enjoying the morning, buying, selling, watching from the many cafés, glasses clinking. The smells were interesting. A mix of perfumed fresh flowers, patisseries and smoke. Yes, they still love their cigarettes here. But it didn’t bother me at all. It is part of the atmosphere. And then of course there are the tastes.

Yes, yay. He does have a rather nasty rash all over his body but, nah, he’ll be fine. 🙂
