It’s Saturday, July 5th, and there are two weddings posted on the doors outside the Auxonne’s Church of Notre Dame. The wedding bells rang just before three and again at four thirty. We saw some of the guests or perhaps they were grooms men in their military uniforms earlier today while we were exploring the town. Later on we heard all the car horns beeping as the guests drove around. Apparently it’s a thing here. It rained last night and this morning and the weather has definitely cooled down. Most of our neighbours in the marina left in the rain but we decided to stay another day.
We visited the Chateau Auxonne this afternoon..It was erected by King Louis XI in 1479 and has been added to and changed over the years and appears to be in the middle of restoration at the moment. It will be great when it’s finished. 🙂
There are some interesting uses for some of the rooms at the moment…
Love the Joyeuse Pétanque club.
It’s now Sunday evening and we are moored up somewhere between Pontailler-sur-Saone and Montoche. We left Auxonne this morning and it immediately started to rain and continued on and off all day. We were looking for a free mooring in Pontailler but they were taken already so we carried on and after 4 attempts (one of which I jumped off the boat to hold a rope and looked down to find 100s of ants swarming up my legs! I did a little dance, hopping from one leg to the other whilst frantically running my hands up and down my legs, kind of like a Morris Dancer without the bells, to swipe them off) we found a nice spot by a vast cornfield. It’s been stormy this evening again and has continued to rain on and off with thunder and lightening. We have had a lot of these storms this year. I didn’t realise how common they are. The clouds still look stormy, I think we may have more rain to come.
Yup. Batten down the hatches! (Always wanted to say that!

Haha you were right, Nikki. And during the night a dead branch fell onto the bow giving me a fright!
